Washington Sundar, a Tamil Nadu all-rounder, is reportedly fully fit for the upcoming three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and India that begins on September 13. Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will host all three games, with the second game on September 15 and the third and final match on September 17.

Washington's availability comes as a boost for India, who are still awaiting fitness updates on several other players.

As per an India Today report, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, is yet to undergo his match simulation, with very little time left for the series to begin. Bumrah is likely to undergo that test on September 9, and its results will give the BCCI an idea of the pacer's fitness and whether he will play in Afghanistan T20Is or not.

In addition to Bumrah, India is awaiting fitness clearances for all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and pacer Harshit Rana. Although both players have finished their fitness evaluations and game simulations, the BCCI has not yet deemed them fit. On the evening of September 9, the final fitness report is expected.

India has named a full-strength squad for the Afghanistan series after losing six T20Is across series against Ireland and England. The only big-name player missing from the squad is all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who last played any cricket in IPL 2026. He remains sidelined due to leg strain during his rehab from the back injury he suffered during the IPL this year.
