ZIM v IND 2022: “I was telling him '100 nahi aa raha'…” Gill recalls his conversation with Yuvraj ahead of Zimbabwe tour

Shubman Gill slammed his maiden international ton in the third ODI against Zimbabwe.

Shubman Gill celebrates his maiden ODI ton | GettyShubman Gill put on a show with the bat in India’s 13-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI at Harare Sports Club on Monday (August 22).

Gill, who registered scores of 82* and 33 in the first two games, slammed 130 off 97 balls – his maiden century in international cricket.

After India’s 3-0 series victory, Gill was awarded Player-of-the-Series for his 245 runs at an astonishing average of 122.50.

For his stunning display, the 22-year-old is garnering praise from all quarters, with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also lauding the young opener.

"Finally!!! Well played @ShubmanGill. You seriously deserved that ton! Congratulations on your first 100. Many more to come, this is just a start #indiavszim," Yuvraj, who has been a mentor to Gill, tweeted.

Following the game, Gill, who also earned the Player-of-the-Match award, was asked by teammate Ishan Kishan about Yuvraj’s tweet and what it means to him.

In reply, Gill revealed that he had a word with Yuvraj before his departure for the Zimbabwe tour and also expressed his concern about not hitting a century for India.

"I just met him before coming to Zimbabwe and he just told me that you're batting well and just go there and when you're set, look to bat through. I was telling him '100 nahi aa raha' (I'm not getting that hundred). And his reply was 'Don't worry, it'll come'," Gill told Kishan in a video uploaded by BCCI on their official website.

After impressing one and all with his batting exploits, Shubman Gill also left everyone stunned with a remarkable catch to dismiss Sikandar Raza, who was threatening to take the third ODI away from India with a brilliant century.

Talking about his catch, Gill said: "The game was pretty tight. We didn't expect the game to go this deep but this is what cricket is about. When the ball went in the air, first I was thinking, 'ok, it's coming to me at an easy pace'. But the ball was dipping and I was like 'it shouldn't fall down'. So I just dived to take the catch."
