The third and final match of the ODI series between Zimbabwe and India on Monday (August 22) almost saw a bit of controversy as Indian seamer Deepak Chahar had an opportunity to run out Innocent Kaia but decided not to appeal.

As Chahar ran in to bowl the first ball of the Zimbabwean innings, he was aware enough to notice the non-striker backing up a bit too far as the Indian seamer stopped in his delivery stride to whip off the bails with the Zimbabwean way out of his crease.

Chahar could have chosen to proceed with the appeal as per the laws but decided to let Kaia off with a strong warning, displaying sportsmanship. He later dismissed the same batter lbw for 6.

There has always been a case of questioning the 'Spirit of Cricket' with such dismissals and the cricketing world is still divided on whether the run out should be legally allowed.

Earlier, India set a target of 290 for Zimbabwe agree KL Rahul won his third toss in a row. Shubman Gill scored his maiden ODI hundred and finished with 130 off 97 balls, while Ishan Kishan (50), Shikhar Dhawan (40) and Rahul (30) made some valuable contributions as India ended their innings at 289/8. Brad Evans of Zimbabwe bagged his maiden five-wicket haul, picking up 5/54.

India had already sealed the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0, so the result of Monday's match will only decide the final scoreline.
