Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Charlotte Edwards confirmed that skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will be available for selection for their next game in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Kaur missed the Mumbai Indians (MI) WPL 2024 game against UP Warriorz because of a niggle, and the defending champions lost the match by seven wickets on Wednesday, February 28.

However, for a big relief for the MI, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will return to action in their next WPL 2024 match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, March 2, in Bengaluru. She is presently the leading run-getter in the ongoing WPL 2024, with 101 runs from two matches.

Charlotte Edwards said in the post-match press conference: “Yeah, unfortunately, Harman was not available for selection today (Wednesday). But she should be back for Saturday (against RCB), and I am really confident on that.”

Meanwhile, Shabnim Ismail was also nursing a niggle, and she also missed the MI’s last game against the UP Warriorz.

Speaking about Ismail’s fitness, Edwards said that he is being monitored closely and hinted that he is unlikely to be fit to play against the RCB.

The MI head coach added, “We’re just waiting on Ismail. It shouldn’t be too long. But obviously, we don’t want to kind of bring her back too early.”

On the other hand, the UP Warriorz team is facing an injury setback, with opener Vrinda Dinesh undergoing a scan at a city hospital after she injured her shoulder while fielding against MI.

The Karnataka all-rounder landed awkwardly on her right shoulder while attempting to prevent the ball from reaching the boundary during the 14th over of MI’s innings.

She was clearly seen in discomfort, and the team physiotherapist had to take her off the field for observation.

UP batter Kiran Navigre in the post-match press conference: “She is getting scanned in the hospital, as we are waiting for an update.”
