Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed in Match 4 of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) on Monday (March 6) at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. MI came into the match on the back of a monstrous win over Gujarat Giants, while RCB had lost by a big margin to Delhi Capitals in their first match.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to put up a challenging score on the board for the home team. Mandhana and Sophie Devine got the team off to a good start to be 39/0 in 4.1 overs. However, RCB suffered a collapse to lose 4 wickets for 4 runs, including both the set openers.

Mandhana was dismissed for 23 by off-spinner Hayley Matthews, as she offered a simple catch to Issy Wong. MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur was jubilant to get rid of her counterpart when she was looking well set for a big score.

Thereafter, RCB had some decent 20's from Richa Ghosh, Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil, and Megan Schutt but none of them could convert it into a big score as the team was bowled out for 155 in 18.4 overs. Matthews (3/28), Saika Ishaque (2/26) and Amelia Kerr (2/30) bowled some fine spells for MI, who were overall clinical with the ball.

The chase wasn't a difficult one for MI, but it was important for the openers to give a solid start which they did as Hayley Matthews added 45 for the first wicket in 5 overs with Yastika Bhatia, before the latter was dismissed for 23.

Matthews was then joined by England's Nat Sciver-Brunt and the duo put on an unbroken 114-run partnership off just 56 balls, with Matthews scoring 77* in 38 balls, while Sciver-Brunt made 55* off 29 balls as MI won by 9 wickets with 34 balls to spare.
