The inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) has captured the imagination of cricket fans across the globe.

In the first two days, the tournament has seen high-voltage matches, mesmerizing knocks and spells, and some incredible catches. The fans have also witnessed a drastic rule change.

For the first time in a T20 tournament, the players are able to review the on-field calls for wide and no-ball by the umpires and challenge them using the Decision Review System (DRS).

According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, the same rule will be implemented in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well.

The teams will be able to use their stipulated reviews to challenge the umpire's decisions for dismissals, wides and no-balls in both WPL and the IPL.

"A player may request a review of any decision taken by the on-field umpires concerning whether or not a batter is dismissed, with the exception of 'Timed Out' (Player Review)," the WPL playing conditions said in a release.

"A player may also be allowed to review any decision taken by on-field umpires concerning wide or no-ball," it added.

In the inaugural edition of the WPL, the rule has been applied in each of the three matches so far. Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur used a review to challenge a wide call in the tournament opener against Gujarat Giants on March 4.

In the second match, Delhi Capitals batter Jemimah Rodrigues used the DRS to check a waist-high no-ball bowled at her by Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Megan Schutt.

In the third game, the rule was used twice. At first, Gujarat Giants skipper Sneh Rana used the review to challenge a wide call in the crucial stage of the match against UP Warriorz. Grace Harris, who starred with the bat in UP Warriorz’s victory, also challenged a wide call and got a crucial extra ball and one run added to her side's total.
