Delhi Capitals on Thursday (March 2) named Australia's multiple World Cup-winning skipper Meg Lanning as the captain and Jemimah Rodrigues as the vice-captain for the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023.
Lanning recently led Australia to their third ICC Women's T20 World Cup title in a row. Overall, she has led Australia to four T20 World Cup titles and one ODI World Cup title and has collected more ICC tournament wins than any other captain in men's or women's cricket.
The 30-year-old has represented Australia in 6 Tests, 103 ODIs and 132 ODIs so far, amassing over 8000 runs across formats with 17 centuries.
Meg Lanning was roped in by the Delhi-based franchise for INR 1.10 Crore at the WPL auction last month. She will lead a side that includes Rodrigues, the franchise's most expensive acquisition at INR 2.20 Crore, and Shafali Verma, who can demolish any bowling attack at the top of the order.
Marizanne Kapp, Alice Capsey, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Taniya Bhatia and Poonam Yadav are the other leading names who are part of the DC squad.
