Gujarat Giants (GG) have named Australia’s Beth Mooney as their captain for the upcoming inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) which will begin from March 4 onwards.
Mooney was recently named the Player of the Final in Australia’s record sixth Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 tournament win in South Africa on Sunday, February 26. Mooney scored a half-century in Australia’s 156/6 in reply to which South Africa could only manage 137/6 and the Meg Lanning-led team became T20 World champs for the third consecutive time.
Gujarat Giants had acquired Beth Mooney for INR 2 crores in the WPL auction and had also bought her teammate Ashleigh Gardner for INR 3.2 crores, who was the Player of the Tournament in recent Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
Recently, they unveiled their new design jersey which is in saffron color with a silhouette of a lion on the right side.

Gujarat Giants is owned by Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd, who splashed a whopping Rs 1,289 crores in the WPL team auction.
Rachel Haynes of Australia is the head coach of the team, with Tushar Arothe (batting coach), Nooshin Al Khadeer (bowling coach), and Gavan Twining (fielding coach) being members of the coaching staff. Former India captain Mithali Raj is the mentor of the side.

While Beth Mooney will be the GG captain for the upcoming WPL 2023, Sneh Rana will serve as her deputy.
Mooney has played 83 T20Is for Australia since 2016 and has made 2350 runs at an average of 40.51 and a strike rate of 124.60 with a best of 117*. She has 2 centuries and 18 fifties to her name. She can also keep wickets and has led Australia in absence of Meg Lanning.
