The WPL 2023 auction was held in Mumbai on February 13.

England's Danni Wyatt didn't find a buyer in WPL auction | GettyThe Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) auction was concluded amidst much excitement and accolades on February 13 in Mumbai, which saw 87 players being sold as the total purse spent by the teams was INR 59.50 Crores of the allowed purse of INR 60 Crores.

Smriti Mandhana was the costliest player bought at INR 3.40 crores by Royal Challengers Bangalore and then Ashleigh Gardner (Australia) and Natalie Sciver (England) got bids of INR 3.20 crores each.

Though many players got life-changing amounts in the auction, there were many players who went unsold and some names were unfortunate not to get a bid from the five franchises.

One such player was England opener Dannielle Wyatt, who went unsold at the auction despite having a decent record in T20Is. In 140 matches, she has 2276 runs at an average of 21.27 and a strike rate of 124.50 with a best score of 124. She has 2 centuries and 10 fifties to her name as well.

“WPL will set a template for other sports to follow suit,” says BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

Over the years, she has delivered sensational performances for her national side and is currently ranked 16th in the ICC's rankings for women's batters.

She reacted on Twitter with a broken heart emoji and said she wanted to play in the WPL in India.

Wyatt tweeted: “Dreamt of playing in the WPL. Heartbroken. Congrats to all who got picked up. India is a wonderful place to play cricket
