WPL Auction 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore hit jackpot pocketing Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry

Smriti Mandhana was sold to RCB for INR 3.40 crs | GettyThe WPL 2023 Auction got underway in Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre with officials of all participating franchises and BCCI attending the event. Mallika Advani was the auctioneer for the event. The logo of the WPL was unveiled as well.

A total of 409 players will go under the hammer with 246 of them being Indians and 163 overseas players, of which eight players are from the associate nations. The players in the auction register have five different slabs of base prices - INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh, INR 30 lakh, INR 20 lakh, and INR 10 lakh, with 24 players choosing to be slotted in the top bracket.

The first name out for the franchises was that of India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana who was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for INR 3.40 crores.

Hayley Matthews of West Indies went unsold in the first round of bidding.

Australia’s star player Ellyse Perry saw Delhi Capitals starting the bidding war with Bangalore joining in. She was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 1.70 crores.
