WPL 2027 auction to be held in Kochi on October 28; tournament likely in January-February window- Report

BCCI is also looking to add a new venue to WPL 2027 schedule.

Varanasi International Cricket Stadium | XThe auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2027) edition is likely to be held on October 28, and the venue is supposed to be Kochi. The BCCI is working out its plans for the 2027 WPL season through an online meeting that took place on Tuesday.

The WPL 2027 is set to be played at two venues – Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the Kotambi Stadium in Baroda. However, during the online meeting for the WPL 2027, BCCI and WPL Governing  Council discussed adding one more venue in Varanasi.

The BCCI team will inspect whether the venue in Varanasi can be ready by then, and, accordingly, a call will be taken on hosting matches there. For now, it’s Mumbai and Vadodara,” a source told Sportstar.

The report further stated that the WPL 2027 tournament is planned for the January-February window, despite India hosting the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in mid-February.

Two stadiums – Brabourne and Kotambi – which have been chosen to host WPL 2027, will also have to host the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy matches. This creates a situation where there is very little time between the two leagues.

Previously, WPL has always been restricted to only two locations in previous seasons, except in the year 2025, when the tournament was played in four different cities. Taking the tournament to Varanasi, which will likely be the home ground for UP Warriorz, will create a new market for WPL and provide the team with a home ground for the first time since 2025, when they played in Lucknow.
