WI v IND 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Jaiswal-Gill star with fifties in India’s 9-wicket win to level series 2-2

Jaiswal and Gill added a joint-highest 165-run stand for opening wicket for India in T20Is.

Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a dominating 84*| GettyYashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill hammered half-centuries as India dominated the 4th T20I against West Indies, played at Lauderhill, Florida, USA on August 12, 2023.

West Indies came into this encounter with a lead of 2-1 in the 5-match T20I series and Rovman Powell started well by winning the toss. He chose to bat first and named three changes in the Windies team.

Jason Holder returned to the XI, while Shai Hope replaced Johnson Charles and Odean Smith came in for Alzarri Joseph. India came into the match unchanged.

West Indies' innings was the story of only two good innings as Shai Hope made 45 in 29 balls and Shimron Hetmyer made 61 in 39 balls with the hosts posting 178/8 in 20 overs. For India, Arshdeep Singh picked 3/38 and Kuldeep Yadav returned two wickets.

In response, it was carnage from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, as they made a mockery of West Indies’ total. The duo added 100 runs at the end of 10 overs and 165 runs for the first wicket overall.

The 165-run partnership between Jaiswal and Gill equaled the record for the highest opening partnership for India, which is also held by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Shubman Gill was the one to get out for 77 runs in 47 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes, while Jaiswal, in his second T20I, hammered 84* in 51 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes and finished the game as well with 18 balls to spare and India won the encounter by 9 wickets.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten and match-winning 84* as India leveled the series 2-2 with the fifth and final T20I to be played tomorrow at the same venue.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the young pair of Gill and Jaiswal and lauded them on social media.
