Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has launched a scathing attack on India head coach Rahul Dravid after the team’s two successive defeats at the hands of a seventh-ranked West Indies side in the ongoing five-T20I series.
In order to avoid a series loss, the Men in Blue will have to win the remaining three T20Is. If India lose one more game, they will end up conceding a first bilateral series to West Indies in 17 years.
Kaneria slammed the visitors for not showing enough intent in the shortest format. He also opined that Dravid should not coach the Indian T20I team in the shortest format and suggested an ideal replacement for him.
"Why is this Indian team not showing enough intent? Hardik Pandya has achieved a lot of success with Gujarat Titians because of Ashish Nehra's presence. India must show more intent in T20Is, and a coach plays a big role in that. Rahul Dravid, no doubt, was a world-class player, but Dravid doesn't deserve to be a coach in T20s. He is very slow. On the other hand, you see Ashish Nehra constantly do something and pass on messages in the field. I think he should get an opportunity," Kaneria said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
Kaneria also criticized Sanju Samson for failing to make the most of the opportunities on the tour of West Indies. In four innings so far, Samson has aggregated 79 runs, including the scores of 12 and 7 in the first two T20Is.
"India rested Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli so that they could give others a chance, as many have complained that a few players haven't had enough opportunities. Now that India have played them, when are you going to score runs, Sanju Samson? He has had enough chances now. I was among the people who supported him and wanted him to get consistent opportunities. However, he hasn't made the most of these chances," Kaneria added.
The third T20I between India and West Indies is slated to be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday (August 8).
