WI v IND 2023: “Opening pair needs to analyze their game more”- RP Singh concerned about Shubman Gill-Ishan Kishan combo

RP Singh also spoke about Hardik Pandya's performance with the bat.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill | GettyFormer India pacer RP Singh has said that India’s opening pair has been a slight area of concern for their batting line-up. Both Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill have failed to make a big score for India as they went 0-2 down in the five-T20I series in Sunday.

India lost the second T20I in Guyana by 2 wickets as after batting first, they posted 152/7 in 20 overs. In response, Nicholas Pooran’s 67 powered them to a close 2-wicket win in the end.

Shubman Gill has scored 3 and 7 in the two T20Is, while Ishan Kishan has scored 6 and 27, while they have put on 5 and 16 runs respectively in the first two T20Is for opening wicket partnership.

RP Singh said India’s opening pair is not exhibiting confidence and has been an area of concern for the batting line-up.

I feel the opening pair's batting should be a slight area of concern for the Indian batting lineup. The way they are batting, they are not exhibiting that much confidence. The opening pair will have to analyze their game a little more,” said Singh on JioCinema.

He further analyzed their dismissals and mentioned who Gill and Kishan were unable to hit the ball cleanly in the second T20I.

WI v IND 2023: “Trick India missing out on"- Uthappa says Indians not playing in other leagues hurting them

If we talk about Shubman Gill, he played some shots where he probably didn't see the ball's line at all and got beaten. He tried to hit straight with hard hands and the ball went over point. Ishan Kishan tries to hit the ball very hard. But both batters are unable to connect the ball properly,” Singh added.

Another players RP Singh focused on was Sanju Samson, who got stumped trying to force pace in Indian innings, falling for 7 runs in second T20I. He did praise captain Hardik Pandya for adapting his game as per situation and for taking up more responsibility.

Sanju Samson also got an opportunity here but he couldn't do anything special. Tilak Varma batted well and ultimately he also got out to a left-arm spinner. I feel Hardik Pandya has changed his game. He is probably trying to take a little more responsibility and stay till the end so that he can play the big shots in the 19th or 20th over, but he is not reaching there,” RP Singh signed off.

The third T20I will be played in Guyana on August 8, Tuesday.
