WI v IND 2023: “Don't take one defeat too seriously,” Aakash Chopra not reading too much into India’s narrow loss in 1st T20I

India suffered a narrow four-run defeat at the hands of West Indies in the first T20I.

India failed to chase the target of 150 in the opening T20I | GettyIndia suffered a narrow four-run defeat at the hands of West Indies in the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad on Thursday (August 3).

Chasing 150 to win, the Men in Blue managed 145/9 in their allotted 20 overs. While some of the Indian batters got starts, they failed to take the team over the finishing line. Debutant Tilak Varma was the top scorer with 22-ball 39.

However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra isn’t reading too much into India’s defeat. He is confident that the Hardik Pandya-led side will bounce back in the upcoming fixtures of the five-match T20I series.

"Don't take one defeat too seriously because it is a five-match series. It is the nature of T20I cricket that you will win at times and lose on other occasions. In my opinion, you don't need to do anything different," Chopra said while previewing the second T20I on JioCinema.

"You have to just improve on the one-percenters here or there. A little more responsibility in the batting order and that's about it," he added.

Aakash Chopra lauded the efforts of the Indian bowlers, who restricted West Indies to 149/6 after being asked to bowl first.

With regard to changes in the batting strategy, Chopra remarked, "batters intent will be totally dependent on the total they would be chasing, if they are chasing, as was the case in the first T20I. So, the intent is directly proportional to how the pitch is and the score you are chasing."

The second T20I will be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday (August 6).
