Ishan Kishan struck his maiden Test fifty in the ongoing second Test between West Indies and India on day four at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on July 23. His unbeaten knock comprised of 4 fours and 2 sixes in just 34 balls.
After gaining a 183-run lead by bowling West Indies out for 255 in their first innings with Mohammed Siraj taking 5/60, the Indian team opted for an aggressive approach in the second innings.
Rohit Sharma (57 in 44 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (38 in 30 balls) added 98 runs for the first wicket in almost 12 overs. Then Ishan Kishan took over after the fall of Jaiswal’s wicket and hammered his maiden Test fifty as India declared their second innings on 182/2 and set West Indies a target of 365 runs.
Team India created a world record for becoming the fastest team to score 100 runs in Test cricket history, breaching the three-figure mark in 12.2 overs.
Ishan Kishan was seen batting with his bat having a sticker of ‘RP17’ on it, which is usually seen on Rishabh Pant’s bat. The two cricketers are fast friends having played cricket together since the U19 days and played the Youth World Cup together as well in 2016.
Not only was Ishan Kishan using a ‘RP17’ sticker on his bat, but he hit two back to back sixes to reach his fifty, and the second six reminded fans of Rishabh Pant, as Kishan hit a massive one-handed blow over the boundary and it was a carbon copy of how Rishabh Pant hits sixes.
