Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja stabilized the Indian innings after a slew of wickets left West Indies threatening to gain the upper hand on day one of the second Test being played in Trinidad. The duo added a century-plus run unbeaten stand for the 5th wicket.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and chose to bowl first on a pitch that was deemed slow and low.
However, the decision backfired as Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed from where they had left in Dominica. They added 139 runs for the first wicket which was their second consecutive century stand while opening the innings.
Jaiswal fell for 57, while Rohit Sharma looked good for his knock of 80 runs. Shubman Gill’s unimpressive outings at no.3 continued as he made 10 runs. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 8 runs as India found itself in some trouble at 182/4.
But then Virat Kohli got the partnership of Ravindra Jadeja and the duo helped India finish day one of 288/4. Kohli ended the day on 87* with 8 fours, while Jadeja made 36* with 4 fours.

Kohli frustrated West Indies bowlers with his exquisite boundary shots and the fielders with his quick running between the wickets. And when he had Ravindra Jadeja at the other end, the quick singles became quick doubles.
In what seemed like an effort from a Windies player to unnerve him, Kohli's alpha avatar peaked as he responded saying, "I have been stealing doubles since 2012", a comment which was caught on stump mic.
