WI v IND 2023: Uncapped Kevin Sinclair gets maiden call-up as West Indies names squad for second Test

The Trinidad match will be the 100th Test between West Indies and India.

Kevin Sinclair | TwitterThe West Indies have made one change to their squad for the second Test against India which will be played at Port of Spain in Trinidad from July 20 onwards. The hosts are 0-1 down after losing the first Test in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs.

It was an all-rounder's poor performance with the bat by the home team in Roseau, as they were bundled out for 150 and 130 in their two innings in reply to India’s 421/5d. No batter managed to score a fifty for them with debutant Alick Athanaze’s 47 being the highest score across two innings.

This has led to the CWI making one change by leaving out batter Raymon Reifer and bringing in off-spin-bowling allrounder Kevin Sinclair to the squad. This is a maiden Test call-up for the all-rounder.

Reifer scored 13 runs in two innings of the first match and failed to take any wickets in his four overs. He however will remain with the team as an injury replacement.

Sinclair, the 23-year-old Guyana player, has a decent first-class record, where he has snapped up 54 wickets in 18 games at an average of 23.98, with a best of 6 for 33. He has also scored 756 runs at 29.07, which includes six half-centuries.

Sinclair has already played seven ODIs and six T20Is for West Indies and was the leading wicket-taker for West Indies A in a three-match series against Bangladesh A and was also part of the senior side in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

Rahkeem Cornwall, who faced a chest infection issue in the first Test, has retained his place.

The rest of the squad was unchanged, with Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Shannon Gabriel, and Jason Holder forming the fast-bowling department.

The second Test will run from July 20 to 24 in Port of Spain and will mark the 100th Test between West Indies and India. The two teams first met in a Test match in 1948 in Delhi.

West Indies squad for the second Test:

Kraigg Brathwaite (capt), Jermaine Blackwood (vice-capt), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kevin Sinclair, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican
