WI v IND 2023: Wasim Jaffer bats for Yashasvi Jaiswal and three other players’ selection for West Indies tour

India will play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is on the tour of West Indies.

Yashasvi Jaiswal | GettyTeam India’s next assignment is the tour of West Indies, comprising two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. The tour will get underway with the Test series on July 12 in Dominica and will run until August 13.

For the all-format series, the Indian selectors are likely to pick the team later this month. Considering India’s poor performance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, it is expected that the Caribbean tour will see some fresh faces.

Meanwhile, former opener Wasim Jaffer has suggested the selection committee to pick Yashasvi Jaiswal for the West Indies tour, both in the Test team and the T20I side.

Jaiswal took the cricketing world by storm with his stunning exploits in the recently held IPL 2023 season, amassing 625 runs from 14 games with two centuries. He also travelled with the national team to UK for the WTC final as a reserved player.

Jaffer also batted for the selection of Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma in white-ball cricket.

"India will have to play fearless cricket. Especially in white-ball cricket, you will have to give chances to guys who are fearless because the game is changing now and if India have to win trophies, they will have to adopt that approach," Jaffer said in a chat on Sportskeeda.

"In white-ball cricket, if we talk about especially T20 cricket, I feel Yashasvi Jaiswal is again one of them. Rinku Singh has been brilliant."

"Jitesh Sharma - Rishabh Pant is currently not there. So Jitesh Sharma could be that guy to replace him, somebody who can bat at No. 5 or No. 6. Sanju Samson could probably come in 50 overs. I feel India will have to try these names," he added.

The likes of Rinku and Jitesh left a mark in IPL 2023 with their finishing abilities while Samson has been in and out of the Indian team for a few years now.
