West Indies skipper Nichols Pooran on Sunday (7th August) talked about the loss his side suffered in the fifth T20I against West Indies. He said that they need to be good in execution and put up the fight with both bat and ball.

It was yet again a disappointing performance from West Indies as they suffered a massive 88-run defeat to lose the series by the margin of 4-1.

Asked to bowl first, West Indies had a decent start as they removed Ishan Kishan early but after that Indian batters chipped in and on account of Shreyas Iyer’s 64 and Deepak Hooda’s 38, they posted a total of 188 runs on the board.

While chasing, they never look settled and lost wickets in quick succession. Shimron Hetymer (56) kept his side in the hunt with his solid knock but he also perished in the end as Indian spinners took all the 10 wickets to bundle out the hosts for just 100 runs.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, Nicholas Pooran admitted that they were not good enough and they need to be in good execution.

“We were just not good enough. We didn't learn from our mistakes. We just weren't up to the challenge, just didn't put enough partnerships. To come up against tough teams, we need to be good in execution,” Nicholas Pooran said.

Pooran said that his side needs to do a lot of catching both in batting as well as bowling. He also talked about the decision to open with Jason Holder.

“Be it in the batting group or bowling group, we have a lot of catching up to do. I just hope that we as a team learn from these losses. We're building towards the World Cup and hopefully, we can do that right. (On Holder opening the batting) Obviously King and Mayers didn't play today, so we needed someone to open,” he said.

Pooran said that they might consider playing two spinners in the XI and India showed them why they are better.

“Just thought of allowing him to bat higher up. We all know what he can do down the order. It (playing two spinners) is something we have to think about in the future. India have shown why they are better than us in this series,” he said.
