Shreyas Iyer has been given a lot of opportunities, but he is yet to flourish in T20I cricket, which has raised questions over his place in India’s playing eleven, and now Parthiv Patel believes the team management should drop him for the remaining two matches of the five-match T20I series against the West Indies.

Since Virat Kohli was rested for the West Indies tour, Iyer was given a chance to bat at No. 3. He did a great job with it in the ODIs, but he hasn’t yet made any valuable contribution while batting at the same position in the ongoing T20I series. Iyer has scored 34 runs in the first three T20Is.

For the third T20I, Ravindra Jadeja was rested while Deepak Hooda returned to the playing XI. Well, ahead of the fourth match on August 6, the former Indian cricketer suggested that Iyer should make way for Jadeja while backing Hooda to play at No.3 for Team India.

Parthiv Patel told Cricbuzz: “I would bring back Jadeja if he was just resting in place of Shreyas Iyer and would bat Deepak Hooda at No.3. If Harshal Patel is fit enough, then I will bring him back in place of Avesh Khan (for the fourth T20I).”

On Iyer’s poor display in T20I cricket, he said: “It was a great opportunity for him (Iyer) to score some runs and get back into form. He is a much better player than the position he comes into while playing short balls. You don't have to leave your stumps and play the kind of shots he did.”

He signed off by saying, “So he should back himself to play along the ground. He had a great chance today to slip under the radar, score a run-a-ball, and remain not out.”
