The West Indies team not only lost the first T20I of the five-match series against India on July 29, 2022, at Tarouba, Trinidad but also suffered monetarily after falling short of completing their overs in the required time and have been fined by the ICC for the offense.

The entire West Indies team has been fined 20% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate after the on-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Patrick Gustard leveled the charges.

Richie Richardson, a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanction after the West Indies were ruled one over short of the target after time allowances were considered.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Captain Nicholas Pooran plead guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction, therefore there was no need for a hearing.
