WI v IND 2022: He hides the ball in his right hand – Kohli's childhood coach draws parallels between Arshdeep & Wasim

The left-arm pacer returned with the figures of 2 for 24 in the first T20I against West Indies.

Arshdeep Singh | GettyArshdeep Singh was one of the stars for India with the ball in their 68-run victory over West Indies in the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad on Friday (July 29).

The left-arm pacer excelled on a sticky wicket, returning with the figures of 2 for 24 in his four overs as India restricted the hosts to 122/8 while defending a total of 190.

Kyle Mayers and Akeal Hosein were his two victims. While Arshdeep dismissed Mayers with a bouncer, he got rid of Akeal Hosein with a ferocious yorker.

After seeing Arshdeep's performance, Virat Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma drew parallels between him and the Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram.

He pointed out how the Punjab lad hides the ball in his right hand during the run-up, something that Wasim Akram used to do while coming in to bowl.

"It seems like Arshdeep Singh has followed Wasim Akram very closely as he holds the ball in his right hand while running to hide it from the batter. It's good to see that he's a thinking cricketer," Rajkumar Sharma told India News.

"He is still very young and has to learn a lot of things. But he is a very promising and a very intelligent cricketer."

Former India cricketer Reetinder Sodhi also lauded Arshdeep, saying the 23-year-old has proved that he is ready for international cricket.

"Arshdeep has performed well whenever he's been given the opportunity. While he wasn't a part of the playing XI for the last few games, it seemed like he had been working very hard in the nets. It's never easy to bowl the yorker, especially in T20 cricket. He is definitely ready for international cricket," said Sodhi.

The second T20I between India and West Indies will be played in St Kitts on Monday (August 1).
