Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris revealed that his phone has been ringing all day because of his recent comments on India batter Shreyas Iyer, who has hit back-to-back fifties in the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

Iyer was struggling with the bat before the West Indies, but the right-hander made everyone talk about him with his batting performance on the Caribbean tour. Iyer smashed two fifties in the first two ODIs to help Team India clinch the ODI series with the final ODI scheduled on Wednesday (July 22).

Notably, Styris had recently predicted that Iyer was a potential candidate for India’s captaincy in the future, and now his phone hasn't stopped ringing after his brilliant performance against the West Indies.

Scott Styris said on Sports18 show 'Sports Over the Top': “I can tell you one thing, I have got my own manual Google alerts. My phone has been buzzing with my comments on Shreyas Iyer a couple of days ago where I said he is a future captain for India.”

He added, “It's performances like this that not only will show his leadership qualities, but I also think will show his leadership in the group. He may not be captain but he has the ability to be a real leader through not only his actions but the way that he carries himself in a team environment as well.”

Styris signed off by saying on Iyer's knock of 63 runs in 2nd ODI: “That was a sensational inning. I think he will be disappointed he didn't go on and make it a bigger number. But I think just exactly what India needed. As I said, they were a little bit slow to start with but he got the momentum going with Sanju Samson.”
