Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar talked about how India should use Yuzvendra Chahal. He also questioned India's bowling tactics in the second ODI against the West Indies in Trinidad.

Chahal has been India’s trump card in the middle overs for a long period. The leg-spinner has many times provided his side with crucial breakthroughs during the middle phase of the game. 

He suffered a downfall too as he was dropped from the Indian side during his rough phase and was not even included in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2021. However, after that, he made a staggering comeback through IPL 2022, where he won the Purple Cap.

His heroics in the IPL earned him his place back in the Indian side. Since then, he has been India’s top performer with the white ball. In the ongoing series against West Indies, the Haryana lad has been decent with the ball, picking 3 wickets in two games. 

But in the second game, Chahal, who mostly bowls in the middle phase, was introduced late into the attack by stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan. This move didn’t go well as he conceded 69 runs and wasn't able to complete his full quota of overs.  

In an interaction on Fan Code, Ajit Agarkar lashed out at the Indian think tank for holding back Chahal in the second ODI against West Indies. He said that he went for wickets in the death overs, which resulted in him conceding runs. 

"I don't quite know what is the plan regarding holding Chahal back. He has done really well whenever he has bowled. Today you could see that when there are explosive hitters in the end, maybe he was a little bit greedy trying to pick wickets towards the end of the innings," Ajit Agarkar said. 

Agarkar said that Chahal should be introduced early in the attack to pick up wickets up front rather than bowling to set batters in the end. 

"It's not always easy, doesn't matter how good a bowler you are, once there are set batters at the crease, once there is a little bit of license, these guys have a lot of power. So why not get him in the game early and try and pick up wickets up front," he said. 

Chahal will be next seen in action during the third ODI against West Indies on Wednesday (27th July).
