WI v IND 2022: Aakash Chopra, fans laud Sanju Samson for his match-changing glovework in first ODI

Samson was excellent behind the stumps in the first ODI against West Indies.

Sanju Samson | TwitterSanju Samson justified his selection in India’s playing XI for the first ODI against West Indies with excellent glovework behind the stumps, especially in the final over.

Defending 15 runs in the final over, Mohammed Siraj conceded a boundary on the third delivery followed by a couple on the fourth ball. The pacer was under the pump and he ended up bowling a wide on the penultimate delivery.

The ball was so far wide down the leg side that it was going away from the wicketkeeper but Samson put in a full-length dive to his left to stop the ball. If not for his dive, the ball would've run away for four more runs.

Samson's effort proved to be the difference in the end as acknowledged by former India cricketer Aakash Chopra. India eventually won the game by three runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-ODI series.

For his match-changing glovework, Sanju Samson also garnered rich praise from Indian cricket fans on Twitter.

The second ODI will be played at the same venue in Trinidad on Sunday (July 24).
