KL Rahul, the talented India batter cannot catch a break it seems. After suffering from a sports hernia before the home T20I series against South Africa, where he was supposed to lead the Indian team and then undergoing surgery for it, the Karnataka lad has suffered another casualty.
Rahul is currently in Bengaluru at the NCA, where he is preparing for the upcoming West Indies T20I series to be played in the Caribbean and the USA and he has been named in the Indian squad for the same. However, his availability is subject to him passing the fitness test before he travels.
While it was seen in videos on social media that Rahul was making good progress, and one video even captured him facing the bowling of India women’s legend Jhulan Goswami, it seems luck is not on his side.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, on July 21, 2022, revealed that KL Rahul has contracted Covid-19 in Bangalore and his departure to West Indies for latter part of the series will depend on his recovery.
Ganguly also informed that a member of the Commonwealth Games-bound India women's team was also down with COVID-19. He, however, did not disclose the name of the player.
It remains to be seen whether Rahul can overcome the latest obstacle in his path to recovery and return to the Indian team.
