The Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies was announced by the BCCI on July 14, 2022, and it brought many surprises for Indian cricket fans.
India will play five T20Is against West Indies apart from a three-ODI series. The first T20I match between West Indies and India will be played in Tarouba, Trinidad on July 29. The second and third t20Is will be played in Basseterre on August 1 and 2, while the last two T20Is will be played in Florida, USA on August 6 and 7.
The T20Is series is under focus given that the Men in Blue will have a handful of matches to try out various combinations to finalize their squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia which will be played in October-November this year.

While the Twitterati were surprised to see the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yuzvendra Chahal missing from the squad and Umran Malik also not included; the majority of the Indian cricket team fans were disappointed that talented Sanju Samson was not included in the squad despite a brilliant half-century against Ireland recently.
They were also baffled by Shreyas Iyer being preferred over Samson, given his faults against pacers bowling bouncers to him, while the Kerala batter has shown an affinity to score quickly against the fast bowlers and is not afraid of the short ball as well.
