Maharashtra cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad, known for his sublime batting, showcased his bowling prowess as well in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament.
Maharashtra played Chhattisgarh, and Ruturaj Gaikwad was bowling towards the fag end of the day. Ruturaj was hit for a six, but he came back with a fury, catching and bowling Sourabh Majumdar to end Chhattisgarh's resistance at 252 runs.
This is Gaikwad's first time playing top-level cricket since suffering an elbow injury that sidelined him halfway through the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. As a result, MS Dhoni returned to command the Chennai Super Kings for the rest of the season.
The competition is named after Mothavarapu Venkata Mahipathi Naidu, well known as Buchi Babu Naidu, a cricket pioneer from Tamil Nadu.
The league features 16 teams, as well as two TNCA-selected teams (President's XI and TNCA XI). The competition is hosted at several locations in Chennai. The winner will receive Rs. 3 lakhs, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs. 2 lakhs.
In the league stage, each game lasts for three days. Each team’s first innings will consist of 90 overs, followed by a second innings of 45 overs. Knockout matches are four-day games, with each team batting for 90 overs in both the first and second innings.
