During the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL 2025), Digvesh Rathi found himself in difficulty once more. The South Delhi Superstarz bowler's verbal altercation with a West Delhi Lions hitter in the seventh game of the 2025 T20 league backfired when he was hit for two straight sixes.
Rathi came into the limelight when he earned an IPL contract in 2025 with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) thanks to an amazing performance in DPL season one in 2024. He performed well but gained notoriety not only for his precise wrist spin but also for his frequent run-ins with hitters and "notebook" celebration. He had the most wickets of any uncapped bowler at the end of the competition, with 14.
Rathi got into a heated argument with West Delhi starter Ankit Kumar during the South Delhi Superstarz's second DPL 2025 match on Tuesday. Ayush Badoni, the captain of South Delhi, brought in Rathi for a third period after the West Delhi openers rushed to 118 runs in the first 11 overs while chasing 186.
Rathi pulled out of his delivery stride on the fifth ball, a tactic he frequently employed during the IPL, to start the incident in the fifth over of West Delhi's chase. A heated argument ensued as Rathi changed to bowling around the wicket on the following delivery, prompting Ankit to move out of his stance.
After greeting him with consecutive sixes, one over long-on and the other over deep mid-wicket, Ankit gestured to Rathi with a "two." After three overs, the bowler's final figures were 0 for 33.
Ankit proceeded to score an incredible 96 runs off of just 46 deliveries. There were six huge sixes and eleven boundaries in his knock. Additionally, he and Krish Yadav formed an incredible opening partnership of 158 runs in just 14 overs, which put their team in a strong position to win the chase.
The South Delhi Superstars enjoyed a strong start to their innings earlier in the game. For the first wicket, openers Kunwar Bidhuri and Sumit Mathur contributed 74 runs, with Bidhuri getting a quick 42 off 27 balls and Mathur scoring a steady 33 off 29.
When necessary, skipper Ayush Badoni played a captain's knock, adding a crucial 48 off 25 in the middle overs.
This was the Superstarz’s second consecutive defeat. Digvesh Rathi is yet to open his wicket tally in the tournament.
