In the WCL 2025 final at Edgbaston on Sunday, South Africa's champions defeated Pakistan's champions by nine wickets thanks to AB de Villiers' incredible third century (120 off just 60 balls), finishing off an incredible campaign.
With de Villiers hitting 12 fours and seven sixes in a classic assault, the Proteas legends reached the finish line in just 16.5 overs while chasing 196. He easily won the title by stitching partnerships of 72 with Hashim Amla (18 off 14) and an undefeated 125 with Jean-Paul Duminy (50* off 28).
Pakistan Champions had previously reached a respectable 195/5 thanks to Sharjeel Khan's 76 off 44, but de Villiers's merciless attack made the final a one-sided contest.
But the most surprising event of the evening didn't happen until long after the game. Presenter Karishma Kotak was interviewing WCL owner Harshit Tomar when, near the end of the segment, she asked him how he would celebrate the tournament's successful finish.
Without batting an eye, Tomar replied, “Probably once this is over, I’m going to propose to you.” Kotak was clearly taken aback by the live-streamed remark. She uttered a startled "Oh my god" before rapidly gathering herself and returning to her presenting duties.
Tomar, however, appeared unfazed by the chatter. Soon after the incident, he shared a picture of himself with Kotak on social media, captioned with a heart emoji.
