South Africa once again succumbed to the pressure in the final of the T20I tri-series against New Zealand. The final of the series was played in Harare on July 26, 2025, and saw South Africa bottling an easy chance, failing to score 7 runs in the final over to win the match.
New Zealand had been asked to bat first and posted 180/5 in 20 overs. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra made 47 runs each, while Tim Seifert made 30 runs. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 2/24.
Chasing an 181-run target, Lhuan de Pretorius made 51 in 35 balls and Reeza Hendricks made 37, adding 92 runs for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. While they lost Rassie van der Dussen (18) and Rubin Hermann (11) for cheap, Dewald Brevis slammed 31 in 16 balls to take South Africa closer to the win.
South Africa needed 7 runs from the last six balls to win the match. Matt Henry bowled the final over, and Brevis was caught by Michael Bracewell on the second ball. He then had George Linde caught at the boundary by Daryl Mitchell and then bowled a dot ball when 4 were needed off the final delivery.
New Zealand won the game by 3 runs and also pocketed the T20I tri-series. Matt Henry won the Player of the Match for his 2/19 in the final over and also the Player of the Series.
