The first ODI between England women and India women was played in Southampton on July 16, which saw the visitors complete a clinical victory.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss and chose to bat first. Sophia Dunkley made 83 and Alice Davidson-Richards made 53, while the skipper made 41 as England women posted 258/6 in 50 overs. For India, Kranti Goud and Sneh Rana picked up two wickets each.

India’s chase was a clinical one as everyone contributed right from Pratika Rawal (36), Smriti Mandhana (28), and Harleen Deol (27). But it was the partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues (48) and Deepti Sharma (62*) that took India past the finishing line.

India made 262/6 with Amanjot Kaur smashing 20* in 14 balls to end the match on a high.

One of the highlights of the Indian innings was the knock by Deepti Sharma, who hit 3 fours and one six in her knock. That six was a one-handed shot that brought up comparisons with Rishabh Pant’s trademark shot.

At the Rose Bowl, the Indian all-rounder stunned everyone by smashing England bowler Lauren Bell for a picture-perfect one-handed six in the 38th over of the run chase. The ball went sailing way past the stands in the deep mid-wicket area, demonstrating her complete control over the shot.

I was waiting for an opportunity like this. I wanted to build a partnership with Jemimah, who scores 5-6 runs an over consistently. (On her sweep shots) I have worked a lot in its early days, and it has helped in this kind of track. (On the one-handed six) I play these shots in practice; I picked that up from Rishabh Pant. We have played in England before, we enjoy these conditions,” Deepti Sharma said in the post-match presentation as per ANI.

The second ODI between the two teams will be played at the Lord’s on July 19.
