In the third Test match against the West Indies in Jamaica, Australia’s Mitchell Starc made history by taking five wickets in 2.3 overs or 15 balls. With match stats of 6/9, the seasoned pacer, who was playing his 100th Test for Australia, was a fireball with the pink ball, also completing 400 Test wickets. As Australia's pace attack tore through the West Indies, dismissing them for just 27 runs, his teammate Scott Boland claimed an incredible hat-trick.
Starc himself set a world record, even if the West Indies were unable to surpass New Zealand's record for the lowest total in a single Test innings. In the history of cricket, no player has ever taken five wickets in fewer deliveries.
Ernie Toshack of Australia, who claimed a 5-for in 19 balls against India in 1947, and two other players shared the previous record. Scott Boland of Australia and Stuart Broad of England have both claimed fifers in 19 balls.

The total by West Indies of 27 is just one more run than the lowest Test total ever, when England bowled New Zealand out for 26 in 1955. West Indies, chasing 204 runs to win, lost the Test match by 176 runs and the three-match series 0-3.
Thanks to his 6 for 9, Starc entered the select group of Australians who have taken 400 or more Test wickets, which also includes Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon. With 402 Test wickets under his belt, the left-armer currently ranks fourth among the Australians' all-time top wicket-takers in the game's longest format.
