When the India U-19 squad played England on Wednesday, July 2, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was outstanding. The Bihar-born left-handed opener opened the innings for India U19 in the third youth ODI of the current five-match bilateral series against England U19.

England batted first in the rain-soaked third ODI and amassed 268/6 runs thanks to captain Thomas Rew's undefeated 76-run effort from 44 balls. In addition to Rew, Ben Dawkins, the opener, scored 62 runs for the home team, while Isaac Mohammed scored 41 off 43 balls.

After hitting the milestone in just 20 balls, he went on to smash the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in Under-19 ODI history. Only Rishabh Pant has scored a faster fifty for India in this format, blazing his way to a 50 off 18 balls against Nepal back in 2016.

Sooryavanshi used just 31 balls to score 86 runs. He hit nine sixes and six fours when he was at the crease.

He also added 38 runs in 4 overs for the first wicket with Abhigyan Kundu, the stand-in captain, and 73 runs for the second wicket with Vihaan Malhotra in the following 4 overs. The entire series has seen Sooryavanshi in scorching form. With a blistering 48 off 19 deliveries, he set the tone in the first game and was instrumental in India's resounding victory.

He maintained his impressive form in the second ODI, scoring 45 off 34 balls, but India was narrowly defeated as England won by a thrilling one wicket to tie the five-match series 1-1.

As India sought to take the lead in the series during a challenging chase of a 269-run mark in 40 overs, his most recent innings came under scrutiny. Sooryavanshi's daring strokeplay enlivened the innings and further demonstrated his extraordinary consistency despite the task at hand.
