Veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara playfully trolled former England skipper Michael Vaughan by asking him to autograph a framed copy of his incorrect prediction from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020/21.
The cheeky moment took place in the Sony Sports studio ahead of the first India-England Test at Headingley on Friday (June 20).
Pujara surprised Vaughan by presenting him with a printed version of his old tweet, in which the latter had predicted a 4-0 whitewash of India in Australia.
Vaughan's post had read: "Told ya … India are going to get hammered in the Test Series … #AUSvIND #4-0."
Both Pujara and Vaughan are part of the commentary team for the ongoing five-match Test series. Their exchange left fellow commentators, including Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle, amused.
Notably, India had defied prediction to clinch the BGT 2020/21 by a 2-1 margin. Despite getting hammered in the first Test at Adelaide and then losing several key players to injuries, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side had bounced back to win the second Test in Melbourne. They drew the Sydney Test and chased down 328 on the final day at Brisbane to seal one of its most historic overseas series wins.
Coming to the Leeds Test, India ended the opening day at 359/3. Skipper Shubman Gill (127* off 175) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159) stole the show with stunning hundreds, while Rishabh Pant (65* off 102) and KL Rahul (42 off 78 balls) returned with valuable contributions.
