A recent County Championship 2025 game included a humorous event when a number 10 batter lost a cell phone while finishing a run during the Gloucestershire v Lancashire tie. Tom Bailey, a quick bowler, was batting and trying to take a quick single when he was observed dropping his phone.
The event happened in the 114th over of Lancashire's innings when Bailey, batting at No. 10 with the team total at 400, was trying to get his first runs off Josh Shaw.
After playing a flip towards fine leg, the 34-year-old seamer was finishing a second run when the phone fell out of his pocket. After being caught on camera, the incident went viral on social media.
“Something has dropped out of his pocket. I think it’s his mobile phone!" a commentator was heard saying.
As observed by the commentators, the bowler picked up the mobile phone, but it is not clear whether he gave it to the umpire or not.
“As much as it is hilarious and we are laughing about it, I almost wonder if that’s going to have to be reported. The fact that he was out in the middle... (chuckles) with a mobile phone in his pocket (more laughs),” the commentator added.
Bailey went on to score an unbeaten 22 off 31 balls, helping Lancashire reach 450 on day two of the match. The bowler Shaw was seen picking up the phone, though it remains unclear whether it was handed over to the umpire.
