India batting star Virat Kohli, who is currently engaged in IPL 2025 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), found himself the center of attention on social media, after his official Instagram account liked a post on fan page account of actress and influencer Avneet Kaur.
A number of perceptive users saw Kohli's verified Instagram handle among the likes on the fan page on May 2.
Many followers sent comments on the post, which quickly went viral. Some made unjustified assumptions about the cricket player, while others dismissed it as a technological issue or a managerial blunder.
Since then, the like in question has vanished. Kohli shared a touching birthday message for his wife, Anushka, the day before. The couple, who have been married since 2017, welcomed Akaay, their second child, in February of last year.
The episode generated a lot of online discussion, a flurry of responses, and even some unjustified labeling of Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, in the post's comment area and on other social media sites.
In response, Virat Kohli decided to clear the air and made a balanced and straightforward statement, asking people not to make too many assumptions about the situation.
In an attempt to resolve the problem, Kohli posted a clarification on his official Instagram handle and posted a story. He addressed the matter head-on and asked the public to refrain from speculating without naming the actress or the post.
“I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding,” Kohli posted on Insta stories on his official account.
