Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan insisted on speaking in Urdu at the toss of his team’s PSL 2025 match against the Karachi Kings. This came after Rizwan was at the receiving end of some massive trolling due to his poor command of English.
Rizwan has been the target of continuous social media teasing for his English, particularly during his time as Pakistan's captain. Rizwan responded to the criticism before his first PSL match, stating that while he laments not having had access to formal schooling, he is not ashamed of his current communication skills.
“I don’t care [about social media trolling]. I am proud of one thing, and that is whatever I say, I say from my heart. I don’t know English. The only regret is that I did not get enough education but I am not even one per cent ashamed that I can’t speak English despite being the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
The demand from me is cricket, not English. There is a regret that I did not complete my education, which is why I struggle in speaking English. Pakistan is not demanding English from me. If that were the case, I would leave cricket to become a professor, but I do not have that much time,” Rizwan said at a PSL press conference.
Therefore, Rizwan made a strong statement after being relentlessly trolled for his poor English skills. During the toss of Sultan’s PSL 10 match against Karachi, as the presenter started speaking in English, Riwan interrupted him and stated that he wanted to speak in Urdu.
At the toss presentation for Multan’s first game of the tournament against Karachi Kings, Rizwan requested, “I want to speak in Urdu, please.”
