India's batting great Virat Kohli has announced his next big step in cricket. The modern-day batting genius has been on the low end of the Test cricket scale in recent times, but he played a huge role in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 win with a century against Pakistan and an 84 against Australia.
Kohli was part of India’s three major ICC white-ball wins. He was part of the 2011 World Cup win, the 2013 and 2025 Champions Trophy win, and also won the 2024 T20 World Cup. At 36, Kohli remains steadfast in his resolve to continue giving his all to the team.
However, the next big ICC one-day event that rolls in will be in 2027 when the ICC World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Kohli, who was born in November 1988, would be 39 years of age by the time the World Cup is played.
Recently, at an event, Virat Kohli was asked about his future in cricket and what will be the next big step for him going forward. The cricketing superstar mentioned the next big step for him will probably be winning the next World Cup in 2027.
“The next big step? I don't know. Maybe try to win the next World Cup 2027” he said.

The squad needs him in 2027, not the other way around. The Delhi batter thrives on physical fitness. Kohli, who averages 89 while chasing in ODIs, would be an excellent sheet anchor in the 50-over format.
This is not to diminish the abilities of young batters such as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both are excellent, but having Kohli, who has monk-like composure when batting, would help both.
Greats such as cricket Sachin Tendulkar and Imran Khan had previously played in World Cups at Kohli's age of 2027. It is to be noted that Kohli top-scored in the 2023 World Cup, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record with 735 runs in 11 matches, with 3 centuries and 5 fifties to his name.
