As many as 10 batters have double centuries to their names in men’s ODI cricket. Still, it can never be forgotten that Sachin Tendulkar was the "first man on the planet" to achieve this feat.
The Indian legend accomplished this milestone in an ODI against South Africa on February 24, 2010. As today marks the 15th anniversary of the landmark, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh arranged a special surprise for Tendulkar.
The duo celebrated the momentous occasion with other members of the Indian Masters team for the ongoing International Masters League.
Tendulkar cut a cake in front of Yuvraj and other team members. The batting maestro came padded up to cut the cake as he remained unbeaten in that ODI match against South Africa.
"Just to say, I was not out, so I'm still padded up," said Tendulkar.
On the other hand, Yuvraj praised Tendulkar’s humbleness despite all his achievements in international cricket.
"First man to get a double hundred. For him, it was just another day in the park, but we have learnt to always be humble from him. He is always there first," said Yuvraj.
Fondly known as the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar represented India in 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, scoring the world record number of runs (15921 in Tests and 18426 in ODIs) and centuries (51 in Tests).
Virat Kohli surpassed Tendulkar’s 49 ODI tons record during the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.
Tendulkar was recently bestowed with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award during the BCCI's annual Naman Awards.
