Virat Kohli's return to the Ranji Trophy after more than 12 years drew a strong crowd to Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. The atmosphere was electric, with thousands of supporters screaming "RCB, RCB" as they welcomed Kohli back to the competition, underlining his immense popularity.

Kohli's appearance on the field for Delhi's match against Railways was a watershed moment, with spectators cheering every time Kohli turned towards them as he stood at slip.

The enthusiasm around Kohli's return reached new heights when a fan, overtaken with emotion, broke through security to meet the 36-year-old batter. The fan dashed to the ground, bowed down before Kohli, and touched his feet before security intervened and led him away.

Kohli also told the security people to not manhandle the fan before he was escorted off the field.

The excitement over Kohli's homecoming was not restricted to his fans' gestures. The crowd's fervor also caused a stampede outside the stadium, as fans pushed and pulled to catch a look of the batting legend. Three people were hurt during the hectic scenes, one of them required a bandage on their leg.

During the incident, a security guard was injured as well. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) security, together with the police, treated the injured fans and attempted to pacify the throng. In addition, a police bike sustained damage.
