New Zealand batter Kane Williamson found himself a victim of the bizarreness of cricket during the third Test against England that began at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

Ben Stokes, the England captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first. He was seeking a series whitewash, having won both the first two Tests. Captain Tom Latham started well, scoring 63 runs, while Will Young (42) and Kane Williamson (44) aided him well.

Despite a few cheap wickets in the middle order, Mitchell Santner’s unbeaten 50 helped New Zealand post 315/9 at the end of day one. Matthew Potts and Gus Atkinson picked three wickets each, while Brydon Carse took two scalps for England.

While the New Zealand batters fell to the brilliance of England bowlers, one particular dismissal, that of Kane Williamson, stood out, as it was the batter’s fault in this dismissal.

New Zealand were 185/3 in the day's final session, with Matthew Potts delivering the 59th over and former captain Kane Williamson on strike.

Potts bowled a length ball angled onto off stump to Williamson, who defended it right under his nose.

But the ball bounced and wriggled back to the stumps. Williamson attempted to stop it by kicking it away, but the ball went on to strike the stumps.
