India U19’s newest batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi made sure that his team stormed into the final of the ongoing ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024 tournament in Sharjah. India defeated Sri Lanka in the second semi-final of the tournament by 7 wickets.
Sri Lanka captain Vihas Thewmika won the toss and chose to bat first. Sharujan Shanmuganathan made 42, while Lakvin Abeysinghe top-scored with 69 runs as Sri Lanka managed 173 in 46.2 overs. For India, Chetan Sharma took 3 wickets, while Kiran Chormale and Ayush Mhatre took two scalps each.
In response, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi took an aggressive stance against Sri Lankan bowlers, while Ayush Mhatre tried to match him with 34 in 28 balls with 7 fours.
But it was Suryavanshi, who stood out as he hammered 31 runs in the second over of the India U19 innings bowled by Dulnith Sigera. Out of these, 22 runs were scored by Vaibhav, who began by hammering 2 sixes off the first two balls and then hit a sublime cover drive for four runs.
Then Sigera bowled a wide that went for five runs. After a dot ball, Sigera conceded 4 runs as leg byes and then Suryavanshi deposited his final delivery of the over for a six, as 31 runs came off the over.
