Sanjay Manjrekar, former India cricketer, received severe backlash from cricket fans online after he slammed BCCI for sending Gautam Gambhir for press conferences. This comes after the India head coach handled the journalists before the Indian team flew to Australia for the five-Test series.
Speaking to the media before he departed for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gautam Gambhir stood up, stood up for his lads, and laid out preparations for the Australia tour. Gambhir clarified several hot-button issues, including the form of several senior players and Rohit Sharma's probable absence from the first Test match in Perth.
For the first time since the Indian team's thumping defeat by New Zealand in a three-match series at home, Gambhir spoke to the media. Gambhir was confronted with some crucial questions, as was to be expected, but he stayed calm and avoided every bullet.
However, Sanjay Manjrekar was not impressed and asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not send Gambhir for a press conference ever again.
"Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for @BCCI to keep him away from such duties, and let him work behind the scenes. He does not have the right demeanor or the words when interacting with them. Rohit & Agarkar, much better guys to front up for the media," Manjrekar posted on X.
This led to Sanjay Manjrekar receiving criticism on social media by fans, who called him out for his bias.
