AUS v PAK 2024: WATCH- Mohammad Rizwan fooled into wasting a DRS review by Adam Zampa in 2nd ODI

Rizwan took the DRS review after a chat with Zampa and it got turned down by the TV umpire.

Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan white-ball captain, was goaded into taking and wasting a DRS review by Australia’s Adam Zampa in the second ODI between the two sides being played at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Rizwan won the toss and chose to bowl first and his bowlers proved his decision correct. Steve Smith (35) was the only batter to go past the 20-run mark for the hosts as Australia was bundled out for 163 runs in 35 overs.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf picked 5/29 and Shaheen Afridi took three wickets.

The incident between Mohammad Rizwan and Adam Zampa happened in the 35th over of Australia's innings. Adam Zampa tried to play a Naseem Shah bouncer and the ball whizzed past his bat as he missed his pull shot.

Rizwan went up in appeal for caught behind soon after collecting the ball and in a surprising move, asked Zampa whether he had hit it or not.

Zampa, on his part, chose to dupe Rizwan into accepting the DRS, urging him 'You should take it', a ruse in which Rizwan fell. Zampa also warned Rizwan, 'You appeal for everything', alluding to the wicketkeeper's habit of excessive yelling from behind the wickets.

Here's how their chat went:

Rizwan: “You heard something?”

Zampa: “I don't know. You blokes appeal for everything.”

Rizwan: “We may take it [DRS] now

Zampa: “Oh! You should. You should

And Rizwan signaled the 'T', eliciting chuckles from the commentary panel. Rizwan did not choose to accept the DRS after receiving confirmation from Zampa, but the fact that he asked him whether there was an advantage involved is what makes this amusing brain fade. As the review concluded, there was space between the ball, bat, and ball.

Here is the video:

The on-air commentators were amused at how Mohammad Rizwan wasted a review. "I think there's nothing there. I didn't hear anything," said David Warner on commentary before Adam Gilchrist chipped in "Nah, I don't think so. Did they go up in time or what?"

A third commentator said, "Well the fact that they are having a discussion there, there could be. 'You should take It' was the advice."

This happened just a few deliveries after Rizwan took out a skier against Zampa. After Zampa top-edged the ball, Rizwan dropped the catch while nearly reaching the ball's line.
