Abhishek Sharma and Sufiyan Muqeem were involved in a heated exchange when India A and Pakistan A faced each other in the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 match on Saturday (October 19).

Opening the innings, Abhishek made the most of the fielding restrictions as he scored 35 runs off 22 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes. But after a promising start, the southpaw was dismissed by Muqeem in the very first over after the powerplay.

Abhishek attempted a big shot over the off-side, but could only find a leading edge. Qasim Akram grabbed a decent diving catch as Pakistan A drew first blood with India A posting 68/1 in 6.1 overs.

After claiming the prized scalp, Muqeem made a silence gesture and then gave Abhishek a send-off. The left-hander was not one bit pleased as he charged towards the Pakistan A spinner. In the end, the on-field umpires had to intervene to restore sanity to proceedings.

Coming to the match, India A registered a thrilling seven-run victory over their arch-rivals at Al Amerat, Oman.

Opting to bat first, India A posted 183/8 on the board thanks to key contributions from skipper Tilak Varma (44 off 35), Prabhsimran Singh (36 off 19) and Abhishek Sharma.

In reply, Pakistan A managed to reach 176/7 in 20 overs. Arafat Minhas was the top scorer with 29-ball 41 while Yasir (33), Qasim Akram (27) and Abdul Samad (25) chipped with handy contributions but they failed to take their team over the finishing line.

Anshul Kamboj starred with the ball for India A, returning with the figures of 3 for 33 in his four overs. Nishant Sindhu and Rasikh Salam also bagged a couple of scalps each.
