The first semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 was played between Australian women and South African women in Dubai on October 17, 2024. Laura Wolvaardt, South Africa captain won the toss and chose to field first.
Australia posted 134/5 in 20 overs with Beth Mooney top-scoring with 44 and Ellyse Perry (31) and Tahlia McGrath (27) also contributing. Ayabonga Khakha picked 2 wickets for South Africa.
In response, though Tazmin Brits got out for 15 runs, skipper Wolvaardt (42) and Anneke Bosch (74* in 48 balls) took South Africa home with 8 wickets in hand and 16 balls remaining. With this amazing performance, South African women also made it into their second Women’s T20 World Cup final.
For the first time, Australia will not play in the final of the T20 World Cup. The second semi-final will be played between the New Zealand and West Indies women’s teams.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the South Africa Women’s team for qualifying for the final of the T20 World Cup.
