India women’s team will clash with New Zealand in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 tournament opening match on October 4, 2024. This match will be played in Dubai. India and New Zealand are in Group A with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad came close to capturing the trophy in 2020 but were defeated by Australia in the finals. Because the most recent edition of the event is being hosted in the United Arab Emirates, the squad is among the favorites to win the trophy.
On the other hand, New Zealand reached the finals in 2009 and 2010 but last advanced to the semi-finals in 2016.
India has proven match-winners in Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma with the bat. Richa Ghosh provides the firepower at the death overs, along with Pooja Vastrakar.
Coming to the bowlers, spinners like Deepti, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav, and Asha Sobhana will be crucial on the slow and turning pitches in Dubai. The Pacers will be led by Renuka Singh, Arundhati Reddy, and Vastrakar.
But in New Zealand-led by Sophie Devine, Harmanpreet Kaur, and the Indian team have a stiff challenge. The white ferns consist of star players like Amelia Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Suzie Bates, Fran Jonas, and Lea Tahuhu.
India needs to start on a winning note a the beginning of the tournament with challenges like Sri Lanka and Australia coming up.
