Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis played a hilarious slog sweep in a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match at the Providence Stadium, Guyana on Saturday (September 28).

Playing for Saint Lucia Kings against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Du Plessis slammed 92 not out off 59 balls. His innings was studded with seven boundaries and four sixes.

The highlight of his knock was a maximum he smashed in the first delivery of the final over against off-spinner Junior Sinclair. Du Plessis nailed the slog sweep over deep mid-wicket but he fell on the batting crease immediately after executing the shot, much to the amusement of the fans.  

After the game, Faf du Plessis reacted to the comical execution of the shot as he tweeted, “Where was the sniper sitting?”

Coming to the match, Faf’s valiant knock went in vain as Saint Lucia Kings suffered a comprehensive at the hands of Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Chasing 208 to win, Saint Lucia’s innings was restricted to 172/7 in 20 overs. Skipper Du Plessis waged a lone battle with the bat as no one in the line-up managed to touch the 30-run mark.
